HMD Construction is a full-service general contracting and development firm that specializes in commercial construction and development opportunities in the greater Raleigh-Durham/Triangle and surrounding areas of North Carolina.

About Us

HMD was founded in March of 2014 by Raleigh natives and brothers, Kenneth and Bryant Dickinson. It was our passion for the commercial construction and development industry and our desire to employ what we learned while working for others over a combined 30+ year period to start a company that would allow us to realize our personal and family goals.

Projects have included building expansions, new construction, and interior fit-up. We take pride in the fact that our project list includes work for businesses serving the community in the fields of medicine, dentistry, office, retail, restaurant, mixed use, education, veterinary medicine, financial services, and much more.

Although the majority of our work has been performed in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Angier and

Clayton, we are open to the discussion of projects located in the counties surrounding Wake, Durham, Johnston, Harnett and Orange. HMD is unlike other Triangle-based commercial general contracting and development firms in that Kenneth and Bryant have real life experience in all stages of a project’s life cycle, from site selection through lease-up and stabilization.

In addition, HMD sets itself apart from other firms in that Kenneth and Bryant not only have construction expertise in all product types, they also have expertise in real estate development and project financing. Kenneth and Bryant welcome questions about their backgrounds, HMD Construction, and any of their experience in the business. The HMD team is proud to have been featured in an “Executive Voice” article in Triangle Business Journal. Read the article here.

Leadership

Kenneth and Bryant Dickinson, brothers and co-owners of HMD, are eighth generation natives of Wake County, with documented family history extending back to the early 1740s. Collectively, Kenneth and Bryant have over 30 years of experience working in corporate banking, commercial real estate finance, commercial construction, custom residential construction, and the development industry.

Kenneth Dickinson

After graduating from North Carolina State University, Kenneth spent seven years in corporate banking and commercial real estate finance with a national lending institution where he had loan approval authority. While in corporate banking, Kenneth provided financing solutions for middle market operating companies, including working capital lines of credit and capital improvements loans. During his tenure in commercial real estate finance, Kenneth provided construction and development loans for all property types, including office, retail shopping, mixed use, luxury apartment and student housing, warehouse, flex space, and more. Kenneth’s interest in real estate development moved him away from banking and allowed him to join forces with an active private student housing and luxury apartment developer. While there, Kenneth spent 10 years developing off-campus, privately owned student housing and luxury apartment projects throughout the southeast, in NC, SC, TN, GA and KY. Kenneth obtained his construction license and ultimately earned the responsibility of managing all of the firm’s development activities, as well as its in-house construction company. Over this 10-year period, Kenneth developed and/or built over $327 million in projects across the southeast.

Bryant Dickinson

Bryant began his career in construction after graduating from North Carolina State University, working for a custom residential builder as a punch-out/warranty manager and superintendent. He learned the building process from the ground up in this position. Bryant was hired away from his initial employer to join a commercial general contracting firm with a focus on Triangle-area projects. At that firm for more than eight years, Bryant was one of the company’s lead superintendent/project managers, responsible for managing site work activities and constructing primarily steel-framed buildings in the multi-million dollar project range. Throughout his tenure, Bryant was involved in the construction of many different property types, including office, retail, flex, manufacturing, churches, pharmacies, fast food restaurants, and more. Bryant also gained experience within that same company on their residential construction team where he successfully built Triangle-area homes in the $750,000 – $2 million price range. Upon leaving that firm to start HMD with Kenneth, Bryant had successfully completed approximately $75 million in commercial projects and numerous custom homes.

“As a design professional, I have worked with many contractors over the last 20+ years. I have been very impressed by HMD Construction and their staff. They provide top quality service and performance on projects and go the extra mile to ensure that their clients’ expectations are exceeded for quality, budget, and schedule.”
